Painted Retablos/Ex Votos
Let's See What We Have Here

Used as a form of devotion throughout Latin America, painted retablos are often left at shrines to thank a saint for a prayer answered or miracle performed. Retablos frequently include a story of the miracle performed along with a picture, date and a person's name. Many are highly personal. Retablos end up in the hands of collectors when stewards of shrines clean them of objects (including milagros) to make room for more devotional items to be left.
